Bio
Dr. Emily Tourgeman is the Visiting Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Southwestern University. She is an accomplished and versatile performer with experience in orchestral, commercial, chamber, and solo settings. Dr. Tourgeman currently serves as third trumpet with the Central Texas Philharmonic and performs regularly with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the Austin Brass Collective. In addition to her university appointment, she is a trumpet instructor for multiple school districts in the greater Austin area.
Dr. Tourgeman holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with Caleb Hudson. She earned a Master’s degree in Orchestral Trumpet Performance from the Mannes School of Music at The New School under the mentorship of Mark Gould. She completed dual undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance at the Hartt School of the University of Hartford, studying with Kevin Cobb and Phil Snedecor.
An active educator and clinician, Dr. Tourgeman presents masterclasses and seminars on recording, music production, content creation, and portfolio development—emphasizing the critical role of self-promotion and digital fluency for modern musicians. Her work in music technology and recording is complemented by her achievements as an avid arranger. Notably, her arrangement and performance of Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre with UNT’s graduate trumpet ensemble, received first prize in the Yamaha Large Ensemble Division at the 2023 National Trumpet Competition.
Emily has performed with ensembles including the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Bach Ensemble, Richmond County Orchestra, Staten Island Philharmonic, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and the One O’Clock Lab Band. She has participated in festivals such as the Chosen Vale Trumpet Seminar, Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar, and the Pierre Monteux School and Music Festival.
Dr. Tourgeman is based in Austin, Texas, where she maintains a private studio and an active freelance career.
